I can't really sign up for a class right now but I'm wanting to practice some yoga.  I need something that will not be too high level and will allow me to modify for abdominal pain issues and severe lower back/ hip/ leg and pelvic pain.  The long stretching I do from physical therapy helps me to feel better so I though maybe I could handle yoga.  Any recommendations for videos or a specific appraoch?

I really like Windsro Pilates.  I know it's not Yoga, but I enjoy it.  It's pretty tough, but she modifies the poses.  Good luck.  I bet it is hard figuring out how to excerise when your body is giving you pain.  Stay positive!

I just thought of something else.  Have you ever done bridges or plank?  Both are great core body exercises that can be pretty comfortable on the body.  I have preggo women do it and those that just delivery.  You might try that.  Cat Cow pose also.  I have all these ideas to help!  Do you want me to message you with a descripition of these or do you already know how to do these excerises?

Amanda, thanks for the suggestions!  I would love descriptions of the poses if you want to message them to me!  I LOVE the windsor pilates tapes that I did years ago ( actually have them on VHS LOL).  The core exercise where you kind of sit in a v and keep your arms out straight while you're torso and legs are lifted really helped me build my abs and loose inches quickly.  Unfortunately that is too hard on my sensitive areas right now but the bridges work very well because my back is supported and I put my legs on my ball.  I don't do really large movements but my therapist has me slightly lift my hips/ pelvic off the floor engaging my abs in isolations.  Thanks for the reminder of that!

Yes, what you are desribing about lifting your pelvcis floor off the ground sounds just like what I call bridges.  There are so many different names for each pose!  Those are great for your abs and work your whole core really well, yet still gentle on the body and back.  I will email you the other descriptions.  You have probably done those too, but just in case :)

There's some really good yoga on TV and I think it comes on early mornings, but if you have a DVR you could just record it.  There's one called Inhale on the Oxygen network and there's another that may be better for you, but I can't think of the name of it right off the top of my head.  If you do a search on your DVR for yoga, it'll probably come up.  Good luck!

Thanks Kat, that's a good idea.  That way I can sample some shows and see if they are easy to modify.
